The first record I bought was Mother of Mine my Neil Reid. Oh the shame of it! I was only 10 or 11 though. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
First single was 'It should have been me' by Yvonne Fair.
First album was Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same. Aged 11 and 13 respectfully, and I still have both. Yvonne Fairs record still puts a shiver down my spine, some 30 years later.
Can't remember ... I already had an extensive collection of vinyl that my Mum gave to me long before I started buying records; I've no idea which, where or when my first actual purchase was.
I know my last one .... a rare Jap import Damned CD. (does that count ?)
spudqueen - I see your Mother of Mine by Neil Reid and I raise you...Welcome Home by Peters & Lee!! I loved it at the time (and, for purely nostalgic reasons, still have a bit of a soft spot for it now - sssssh. Don't tell anyone). In my defence, I was only four years old when it was in the charts. In fact my nan had to go into the shop and get it for me, but it was out of my pocket money, so that counts as me buying it :-)
My first album I bought was the soundtrack to 'Vanishing Point'.
My first 'proper' album I bought for myself was 'Santana Abraxas' by Santana, and the first single I bought was 'The Gene Jeanie' by David Bowie, all when I was seventeen.
I was a bit of a late starter, but I sure made up for it since!
I didn't get into buying albums till I was quite old, was always content with listening to the radio and stealing my sister's albums. Consequently, the first single i bought was Baddiel and Skinner and the Lightning Seeds' 3 Lions in 1996 when I was 13 and the first album was The Bluetones' Return to the Last Chance Saloon in the same year.
The first single I begged for was Brotherhood of Man "Angelo" in 1977 - O the shame!
I finally went out and splurged on three singles, which I'm pretty sure were Blondie "Call Me", Souixsie & The Banshees "Happy House" and Police "Spirits in the Material World". Someone correct me if my dates are all wrong.... but not bad taste for a 10 yr old, eh?!
first single i bought when i was 10 was " david soul " "dont give up on us". bluevern i was a numanoid too!! had nearly all his stuff it got lost over the years!
