I think it may be Johnny Preston you are looking for. It was released in 1961.

I remember a song called Guardian Angel by a guy called Nino D'Angelo but that was 1984.

Quite a dramatic ballad, the guys starts singing low then goes up an octave (nice trick that) for the second verse

"I feel I'm falling apart 'cos I know,
I've lost my Guardian Angel..." etc etc
