Faust is a grand French opera by Charles Gounod, but The Damnation of Faust is a concert work (with singers) by Hector Berlioz - both deal with the same subject (Faust selling his soul to Mephistopheles), but apart from both being by French composers, they are very different in musical style and treatment. The Berlioz is usually only performed in the concert hall (ie. without scenery or costumes), whereas the Gounod is a fully staged opera.
