hi, has anyone heard of a free composer which lets you drag notes onto the staff, very easily, quickly, for a beginner?

Sibelius is quite good, but it's very expensive.

Try doing a Google search for 'Noteworthy Composer" - you can get a free trial download and it's not very expensive if you decide to buy it.
