Whilst on hold on an answers service recently I listened to a song about soldiers. I cant rememebr the words or the title or artist, but it was about the fact that soldiers could be anyone regardless of hieght, colour ,race nationality, religeon etc It was a modern song. Can anyone give me a hint as to the title or artist? Thanks

There was a song in the 60s around this theme. It was Universal Soldier by Buffy St Marie, a female Canadian 'folk' singer

Thank you Johnny37. this web site is amazing, I never expected to get an answer. Thanks to your help I have also found a version by Donavon. Its a good song. I appreciate your help.
I'd forgotton about the Donovan version. It was over 40 years ago! If you want to do some more research Buffy's full name is Buft Sainte Marie (Sainte with an e). It was an iconic song in the 60s, I believe Julie Felix also recorded it
