Maybe not as well known as some of the other answers (but it deserves to be, and I *promise* you'll love the song if you dig it out) but 1min 12 seconds into
Promised Land by Johnnie Allan, the drummer drops one of his sticks, picks up a spare and carries on, though he loses the rhythm momentarily. (The song being recorded in one take). Doesn't stop it being just about the most toe-tappin' tune ever recorded.
And, for proof that I'm not the only one who thinks so, it reached 78th in the NME Writers all time top 150 singles (first published on 28th February 1987, see
