DJ Shadow is simply superb. I stumbled upon him (not literally) 10 years ago in Our Price (remember that?!) in Manchester. They were playing a track instore and I bought the album (his first - Endtroducing) on the strength of that. Check out the track Organ Donor on Endtroducing. He samples a hell of a lot (there was a quote on the sleeve saying he was "the Jimi Hendrix of the sample"), and the tunes are so catchy and different - great, big beats. Anyway, his 2nd album The Private Press is also class as well. In answer to your question, I didn't know who it was, but have googled and found it to be a guy called Chris James from a band called Stateside - no, I've never heard of them before either. Great track though. Oh, I've also found an article on google saying that it is an anonymous vocal sample, so not at all sure what to believe. Check out his website - that may help. I can't recommend his back catalogue enough though. He also did a collaboration with James Lavelle who founded the Mo Wax label that DJ Shadow was originally on (not sure if he still is), called Psyence Fiction by UNKLE and there's some great tunes on there too. Notably, Rabbit In Your Headlights feat. Thom Yorke of Radiohead (watch the video on YouTube - class!) and Lonely Soul with Richard Ashcroft, then of The Verve. Hope this helps....
