Yeah, Chris Norman left Smokie mid-eighties and became a big solo star in Germany.

He was replaced by the guy who sang in Black Lace (strange but true!) but he then died (I think in a car crash) in the '90's

I think the guitar player now sings lead in Smokie

Yes, Chris Norman is still alive as the previous abers pointed out.
He started a new band a few years ago after winning the German version of "I'm a Celebrity. get me out of here!
He is doing well, mostly in Germany and I think he lives in the Channel Islands. His Son was killed in a RTA a few years ago.
A ggod friend of mine was one of his female backing singers until the middle of last year.
