My friend did not believe me when I said that in the 90's Chubby Brown released a version of Smokey Robinsons 'Living next door to Alice'. Can anyone tell me where I can find proof?
The song was banned on a lot of radio stations as it contained the line "Alice,Alice who the f***s Alice" I always remember that when it was doing the rounds I was on holiday in Sri Lanka and one night the band in the hotel were playing Alice (the proper version) and all the Brits, absolutly unplanned, burst into song with chubbies version.
I think the original version is far better by smokie, it just shows the drunk english up no end (i'm english). i'm not going to say "under class" but that what springs to mind when peeps shout out foul words with kids next to them,
some of the children are all of 5 years old.
My friend alice worked at a kids adventure playground when this song came out... she got sacked for teaching it to the kids. As a parent it still makes me sm,ile now.
Hehe, I have this single, its a collector's item. There is an even better version on the single about his mate, Bert (I think) who is a cross dresser.
Chubs comes from round here (Redcar, nth East of England).
He's a bit blue if you've never heard him before.
Chubby Brown had a hit with this in 1995 but the first I'd heard of "who the f*ck is Alice?" was two years earlier - in Ireland. So I don't think it was the English who spawned this version, diode dug - but I fully understand what you mean!!
