I never did like Queen. Well, I liked their first four singles, plus 'Slightly Mad' and 'It's the Final Countdown'. OK, that's six songs, but they did have 40 odd hit singles, most of which were poo.
The thing is, I've never heard a bad word said against them, and I believe I might be the only person wno good.
Queen had 13 No1 studio albums (2 at double platinum), won 9 different awards and their recordings have collectively spent 1422 weeks (27 years) on the charts.
That doesn't happen if the world thinks you're poo. You may not care much for their music - that's your opinion and it's valid. But the general concensus is that they consistently delivered.
What, are you kidding? Loads of people abhorred Queen! You must have been reading different magazines from me!
Even if they didn't hate them for the music, they were (rightly) revilled by many for touring apartheid South Africa in 84, although they did play before so-called 'integrated' audiences.
Personally, I love the music, but it'd be hard to deny that they had detractors galore.
"it'd be hard to deny that they had detracors galore"...
agreed. there are probably an equal number who hold the opposite view. musical taste is a matter of personal preference, but their sales figures must say something of their popularity.
Exactly my point, Mushroom 25 (your first answer), Queen have been smothered with praise for 30+ years, as well as authors issuing the sort of statistics that you've pointed out. That's partly to do with why I dislike them, I suppose.
I've never heard from any of their distractors, though.
