Not sure where they stand legally with saying you cannot re-sell for profit.
Surely the ticket becomes my property when purchased so I can do what I like with it ?

The money paid to the organisers is actually paid for the service of attending the event; a buyer cannot resell this because, since it is the organiser (not the buyer) providing the service, the buyer does not have it to sell. The ticket is not a trade good in its own right, but merely a token used to facilitate the process of selling the service; typically selling it on will contravene the original conditions of sale although it's legally questionable whether the original conditions of sale are enforceable.

However, in the specific case of UK football, it is illegal to resell tickets (as per the Criminal Justice Act 1994) unless the resale is authorised by the organiser of the match.

I wish something would be done. I am desperate for a ticket but i am being forced into paying maybe three times more than the face value of the ticket. Its happening all the time and its not fair on people like me who genuinlly want to go and see the band. :-(

about bloody time.... for the record Take that can do what they like with their tickets as I have no interest whatsoever.

e-bay sellers are no different to ticket touts except they did not sell at the venue unless previously arranged.
Ticket touts don't always "clean-up" though. Kaiser Chiefs recently played Wolverhampton Civic and the tickets sold out within hours when offically released for the gig. On the night of the gig, so many touts turned up that surplus tickets only made face value.
