Massive Attack have loads of tracks that would fit the bill - Unfinished Sympathy, Protection, Teardrop etc.

for shivers, How Soon Is Now by The Smiths. "So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home and you cry and you want to die." Also Hurt by NIN, although the Cash version is also good, better with the video. Ride On is a great old AC/DC track, the only slow one they ever did with Bon Scott.
