Drugs in music.

Does anyone else think that it's a bit hypocritical for people to judge an average joe for taking drugs but then turn around and say they love a certain bands music, when half the songs that band ever wrote and recorded was done while thay were mashed off their faces on coke or whatever. Naming no names, but we all know it's happened/happening.

Yes - but it's a lot easier to tolerate someone on drugs if you never meet them and suffer the direct consequences of the drugs I suppose. And unfortunately it seems some bands have their greatest inspiration when under the influence! What surprises me is many people/bands basically admit to taking drugs in the media - do the police not perk up and notice?! Or am I being too naive in thinking that the police would care and or follow it up?!

yes it's a bit hypocritical. but if one's record collection consisted purely of squeaky clean artists it would be a) small and b) rubbish

Yeah it is hypocritical, my daughter really hates drugs but half the bands she loves are on them. She justifies it by saying they can afford them and dont have to be on the dole, burgal a house, mug the elderly etc to be able to buy them. If that answer can be justified I dont know.

Lot's of people can afford drugs, you don't have to be a celebrity, and I'd say for every granny robbing heroine addict, there's 20 drug users who use them recreationally out of they're own hard earned dough. Saying that, that is slightly getting off the point. Everyone is aware of the rampant drug use in celebrity circles, especially music, but turn a blind eye. Like, didn't Tony Blair, for example, meet Noel Gallagher and have a good ol chinwag. This guy wrote all his good music when he was a poor roadie, off his head on whatever. I don't think he's ever said he regretted it. I don't think he has to do that, but it sends mixed signals.
