Child of the 60's no.2

Doc spocks question about the 60's seemed to raise alot of memories about music of the 60's and 70's. I know that for me it would be Dione and The Belmonts. Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young, James Taylor and Creedence Clearwater Revival. How many of you are able to go back to the music of your youth and listen to it with fresh ears...or does it all just sound a bit cheesy now?

Most of it is now being recorded by current groups.Not a patch on the originals though.

I have been putting some stuff on my mp3 player this week again and found some excellent quality stuff, I especially wanted some motown and found Third Finger left hand and Jimmy mack, I wanted to find some early Paul Simon too but still looking. I did like CSN&Y but preferred The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and The Doobie Bros.
I can listen to anything from the sixties and seventies on my headphones and it sounds brilliant!

My favourite groups were,

The yardbirds, The who, small faces, geno washington and the ram jam band,the action, graham bond, the temptations, spencer davis, pink floyd, the animals, kinks, the byrds, otis redding, free, the herd, family, stones, god I could go on for ages, and yes I still love that music

Of course music is also about time and place- what was happening in your life and in the world at the time. And new covers don't have the same emotional connections either.

my fave album is There Goes Rhymin Simon, was that the one with the simple desoltory philipic or was that just called Paul Simon? I loved that, i used it in an English Language essay and got an a!

I have to admit that I am listening to more contemporary music-simply because that is what is on at work. In my younger days I also listened to alot of folk music,so when i came to the UK i started to explore that here...and ffrom that I then discovered 'world' music. So much to listen to and not enough time! lol! ...And dot-I can remember getting a HUGE portable record player for my18th and the first thing on was Bridge Over Troubled Water..

must admit to still having a Burrito bros LP upstairs! lol Oh and i bought Rick Neslson's garden party LP the day it was released and i still have that, and his Rudy the 5th! But that was early 70's

but he calls himself simple simon doesn't he? and it is quite funny as i recall, I bet i havn't read that for 30 years!!!!
