No... that would be Brian Keith, the lead singer of The Congregation; previously of Chris Lamb & The Universals, Circles, Screamin' Lord Sutch & The Savages and Plastic Penny.

The song was written by songwriting team Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway, who originally recorded it in 1967 under their performing name David and Jonathan.

Oh wierd, that link mentions Joe Cocker! I know i used to sell the record back in the 70s and it was a hit, but i couldn't remember the story behind it. i worked in a Record Shop from 1972 to 1977 so listened to all sorts, except punk lol
