House V Hip Hop

At the risk of sounding like a dinosaur, can anyone tell me the difference between House music and Hip-Hop? I am always confused about this!

errr...not my area of expertise at all but if you went to a club in the 90s you were pretty much gonna be listening to house.... but then theres all those sub genres, techno, trance, funky house, euro house and I never really know what is what.

and hip hop well thats even more awful,the stupid stuff like shizznit dawg, although I find the former stuff bearable...

ill go for stuff you will recognise the name of ll cool j, snoop dog (and apparently even cypress hill and the Beastie boys are hip hop).
So search for them on youtube, I plain refuse to add a link. I really dont understand it myself.

Whats wrong with good old Indie and metal?

The way I interpret it is hip hop is rap and house emerged out of Chicago clubs, more melodic dance music with 'real singing' etc. This is a sweeping generalization but the best way to explain it at its most basic level :-)

Booldawg, I have the most boring 18 year old mate who would core you to tears with the history of hip hop for making that sweeping generalisation.
