Why did she retire early? Is it true she was only 17 when Wuthering Heights was released? And is there any chance she might make a comeback some day? Sorry I don't know much about her career as I only recently discovered her music; I would also be interested in any album recommendations. Thanks.

Kate Bush has not 'retired', she just takes an extremely long time to record her albums. Rumours persist that her next release is nearly ready, but Kate does seem content to spend time with her partner and children, living the life of a wife and mum. It is true she was 17 when 'Wuthering heights' was released - she came to the attention of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour when she was just 15, and he financed her demmos for EMI which led to her signing. I can reccomend the 'Hounds Of Love' album, and I constantly refer to ms. Bush as one of the very few musicians to whom the word 'geenius' can legitimately be applied.

Thanks andy, that was very informative, much appreciated. :)
And she was simply drop dead gorgeous.
Marine - you are more than welcome, and Scuba, you are anbsolutely right! I'm off for a rub-down with a damp NME - see you later!
I agree with andy hughes, Hounds of Love is a good album to start with, my personal favourite is the slightly more wierd The Dreaming - superb. And yes she was (and I am sure still is) gorgeous, I was a pubescent girl when she first appeared (she wasn't much older herself) and I was desperate to BE her!!. My husband has to absent himself from the room everytime he sees the video for Babooshka, but that's another story.........
Andy I would have though a man of you standing would have dispelled with this myth about Gilmour discovering her long ago.......a friend played him one of her demos and he expressed the opinion that she was very good and if possilbe he would like to work with/produce her, further than that he really didn't do much other than tell a few people about her....this comes from a interview on radio 1 a good few years ago with Nicky Horne.
I didn't actually say David Gilmour 'discovered' Kate Bush, what I did say was that her work came to his attention, and he financed her demos for EMI, which is backed up on Kate's entry on the VH1 website, and the exceedingly detailed and authorotitive 'Saucerful Of Secrets - The Pink Floyd Odessey'. I am as always ready to be corrected, but my response is based on two independent sources, not an urban myth.
A story I read recently concerned how Kate Bush's record company where very excited when they spoke to Bush who confirmed she was making great progress on her latest work. Delighted the record company sent an eager executive to Kate's country retreat to hear this new album. The Executive sat expectantly in the kitchen of Kate's house. He watched as she took a tray of mince pies hot from the oven and told him that THESE where her latest work and she was so proud as she'd finally discovered how to make the perfect mince pies! I know - I know - its probably only a dumb story but it made me laugh! By the by, Houds of Love is one of my favourite albums - I also loved Red Shoes album - sadly underated. The songs Moments of Please and Eat The Music are sublime.
