The song is called A Rose Has To Die, and I am ashamed to say the version I recall was by The Dooleys - I will have a look and see if someone else did it!

Nope...your right first time...it was the Dooleys in September 1978 they got to number 11......they hold the record for being the largest family act to chart in the UK with 7 members.

It was also released a couple of years earlier by the RYDERS. A Rose Has To Die was a hit in South Africa, also pre-daing The Dooleys version, by Dennis East. But it was the Dooleys who had the big UK hit with the song written by Ben Findon. They hold the record for being the largest BRITISH family act to chart. Jim, John, Frank, Anne, Kathy and Helen were the 6 members of the family, joined by Anne's husband Bob Walsh and drummer Alan Bogan. (Unrelated Alan didnt even have the decency to marry into the group). The largest worldwide family group to have a hit in the UK are the JETS (cant remember the family name). They had 1 UK Top 10 hit in the UK in the mid 80s (Crush on you). There were 14 members of the family behind the group The Jets but only 8 were in the group. WHERE ARE THEY NOW ? 25 years on the group no longer tour are spread around the UK and South Africa. 2 of the brothers still live in the North West of Britain as does Alan Bogan (all 3 around Manchester / Oldham). Jim and Kathy both moved back down South (Wilts / Berks). Anne, Bob and Helen are in South Africa where they occaisionally work on stage as Shiraz. Helen was the baby of the group and joined the line up during the summer of 1978. Her first record with the group came in 1979 with Honey I'm Lost, although she had writing credits on FOREVER the b-side of their 2nd hit LOVE OF MY LIFE.
