I am a huge music fan of all genres, and firmly believe the artists and studios should get the payments and recognition they are entitled to.

The day will come when one person actually pays for a track, and everyone helps themselves to it for nothing.

In the early 70s a single record was around 60p. You can legally download tracks for this sort of price and less today. It is minimum cost.

I wouldn't work for nothing, and I don't expect artists and record producers to.

If you have I trust you got the necessary written permission.

I don't mind paying for music if its reasonable, but when I want a fairly old CD i ain't paying �18 quid for it and as a percentage I'm sure most of it goes to the record company which enables them to keep fat middle aged men in the lifestyle they have become accustomed to.

We have been ripped of for YEARS by the record companies.

What about the fact that they closed down CD WOW. hardly a free market is it?

Apparently Sony BMG made a profit of $178 for the last QUARTER.

I bet they pass all of that on to artistes as opposed to a 5% (of total sales) royalty if the artits are lucky.

Soulseek is what i use.

I think music piracy or "Global Sharing" as i like to call it, is a great idea. It's nice to borrow / lend a CD from a friend but it is totally altruistic to borrow lend one to / from a complete stranger!

Funk - I can honestly say I have never copied music.

And yes - the big artists and the studios do make money, but a lot of the music I listen to doesn't have such backers.

And don't forget, the music industry employs many many people, from unnamed studio artists you hear on the music right down to admin clerks.

I have never felt ripped off by the industry - music is a pleasure to be treasured. Without profits, there won't be investment in new musicians.

By the way, if you are keen for something to listen to, try Gogol Bordello.
