How long have you been playing?
Are you teaching yourself?
Are you wanting to play ryhthm guitar? or perhaps go on to lead?

Learning to play the guitar, especially if you are teaching yourself takes a long time, and the more you practice the better you will become. Try finding a couple of really easy tracks and playing along with them. Have a session with another guitarist, or consider having a couple of lessons with a teacher to help you on the way. Persevere, we were all there when we first started. Good luck.
and as they say: if music be the food of love......... play on!
Invest in a metronome from your local instrument supplier.

Play along to really slow tracks to start with until the beat becomes second nature, then graduate to slightly fastter ones, and so on.

Practise tapping your feet and hands to a track while you sit and listen - all these will assist.
Andy's advice is sound. Also, no matter what your standard, try to get yourself with a group as soon as you can, whether that's a community class or just a fun group. You will learn a lot, you will have fun, and you will improve without realising.
