Need help with modern Music for wedding...

Hi all. I'm getting married this year but neither my fiancee nor myself are too fussed on the usual church organ kind of 'here comes the bride' and 'the wedding march'. So... we are looking for some great sounding modern classical or non classical pieces if people could help us out. To give you an idea of the kind of thing we're looking for, one of our choices is 'The Balcony Scene' from Romeo and Juliet by Craig Armstrong (current BBC Euro 2004 advert theme - mainly the strings at the middle to end, as opposed to piano at the beginning). Another one as an incidental is Brian Eno - Ending (An Ascent) from the Apollo soundtrack. If people don't know what they're like, have a listen and you'll get an idea of what we're after - does anyone else have any suggestions along these kinda lines of music we could use? Thanks for that Paulz - but I guess we're really looking for instrumental music, or something a bit less main stream than Shania Twain (not a big fan he he). Thanks again though.

Try one of these: Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini, Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, Nulla In Mundo Pax Sincera(last track on the sound track of Shine) or In Paradisium(used in The Thin Red Line). They'd all sound rather good in a wedding and given my time again I'd use them.

Wow, what a great choice the Brian Eno track is. Another possible is the theme from 1492 by Vangelis, or indeed many other Vangelis pieces. You could also try Isao Tomita who plays classical music but using synthesisers. Kitaro is also well worth a look.

I'm an organist and the most non main stream thing I've ever been asked to play at a wedding was Brian Adams "Everything I do"

Thing is, if you're going to go for something really modern it might not sound as great on the organ and it really depends on the type of organ in the church and the organist!  Best to talk to your church organist about it, and if it doens't work out, why not hire a trio instead?  A trio usually comprises of a flautist, a violinst and a cellist and they will be able to suggest many different pieces and they sound fab.

Thanks vickyclare... but we used a sound system and played the music from CD rather than hiring musicians. The wedding went perfectly, the sound in the church was great and we used The Blacony Scene as my wife walked up the isle (crying all the way, she said as soon as the music started, she couldn't help herself heh) and the Trumpet Voluntary by Clarke for the leaving.
