Kirsty MacColl said 'I put you on a pedestal, you put me on the pill' - so simple yet pure genius! Which song lyrics make you think 'I wish I had written that'

oopss, soz - silly me (still a great line though)
Would love to have written Out of my Mind by Kieran Goss:

Stop where you are
I didn't really mean to hurt you
If something I've said has torn you away from me
We sit on the stairs
Hoping that the tears don't come
To draw you away
And leave me alone again

I'm out of my head
Don't understand it
Out of my heart
Low down and stranded
Taking the chance
You might hold on
And follow me blind
I'm out of my mind

And when you rise
Hoping that you don't remember
The things that I said
The way that you're feeling now
We sit on the bed (I see you crying)
Can't keep the tears from falling (falling down)
I wipe them away
To know that they'll fall again

How come it's me who's always saying the wrong thing
Sometimes it feels just like you're playing my heartstrings
Some would say I'm afraid just to be back on my own again

Stop where you are
I didn't really mean to hurt you
If something I've said has torn you away from me

I'm out of my head
Don't understand it
Out of my heart
Low down and stranded
Taking the chance
You might hold on
And follow me blind
I'm falling behind
I'm out of my mind

either that or This Love Will Carry by Dougie MacLean:

It's a thin line that leads us and keeps a man from shame
And dark clouds quickly gather along the way he came
There's fear out on the mountain and death out on the plain
There's heartbreak and heart-ache in the shadow of the flame

Chorus:

[But]this love will carry, this love will carry me
I know this love will carry me

The strongest web will tangle, the sweetest bloom will fall
And somewhere in the distance we try and catch it all
Success lasts for a moment and failure's always near
And you look down at your blistered hands as turns another year

Chorus

These days are golden, they must not waste away
For our time is like that flower and soon it will decay
And though by storms we're weakened, uncertainty is sure
And like the coming of the dawn it's ours for evermore

Chorus

Always loved this, especially the last two lines here:

The boy who's always mad
He's just alone and sad
He holds my hand so tightly
He says "Go away, I'm bad

I'll leave you black and blue
I'll rip you right in two
But it is just because
I do not know how to be true
.
That's why I sometimes stand alone at parties
That's why I drink, so I'll be who they think I am"

I Say Nothing - Voice Of The Beehive
..two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude...
Written by Paul Weller for the Jam's "That's Entertainment"
My favourite line is "Think I'll just fall to pieces, if i don't find something else to do, the sadness never ceases, I'm still in love with you." which is written by Phil Lynott, but my favourite song has to be 'If You Could Read My Mind' by Gordon Lightfoot, with its image of a ghost, and the plaintive way he says "But for now love, let's be real ...", I'm singing it as I type this.
Come on beautiful/we'll go and sit on the front lawn/and watch the fireflies as the sun goes down - Firefly by American Music Club is probably the most beautiful song in the world.

Also, Michael by the Red House Painters, a paean to a lost friendship, especially the lines -

do you remember

our first subway ride

our first heavy metal haircuts

the last swim on the east coast

and me with my ridiculous looking pierced nose

I remember

your warm smile in the sun

the daydreaming boy without shirt on

the birmingham barfly father

left a mother with 3 sons

you were the oldest, juvenile delinquent bum

my best friend.

"Jump on outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen, pour myself a cup of ambition, and yawn and stretch and try to come to life". Brilliant. Perfectly sums up the first few minutes of every day of my life.
How about I was delayed, I was waylaid An emergency stop I spent the last 10 seconds of life I crashed down on the crossbar and the pain was enough to make a shy, bald Buddhist reflect and plan a mass murder Who said I lied to her? Who said I lied because I never, I never Who said I lied because I never. Good lyrics are never mushy no?

Mostly I want to have written the actual music to a song, rather than the lyrics. Saying that the lyrics to 'Iris' by The Goo Goo Dolls are gorgeous. Especially: 'And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything feels like the movies Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive' Also love the verse lyrics to 'Fear of Dying' by Jack off Jill: I'm not afraid of standing still. I'm just afraid of being bored. I'm not afraid of speaking my mind. I'm just afraid of being ignored. I'm not afraid of feeling and I'm not afraid of trying..... I'm just afraid of losing and I am afraid of dying. I'm not afraid of being sick. I'm more afraid of being well. I'm not afraid... put the gun in my hand... I'm just afraid it will hurt like, hurt like hell. I'm not afraid of screaming and I'm not afraid crying I'm just afraid of forgetting and I am afraid of dying. I'm not afraid of looking ugly. I couldn't care what they say. I'm not afraid of happy endings....... I'm just afraid my life won't work that way. I'm not afraid of forgivness... I'll absolve you everything. I'm not afraid of lying but I am afraid of dying. Without you, yes I do and I hope that you do too. Without you, yes I do. Without you, all I do is sit and think about you. Without you, yes I..........
damn, mine didn't space properly. Sorry about that. Could one of the admin/editing folk fix it?

hi morrisonker - you need html to get the spaces - but never mind, it doesn't detract from the beautiful lyrics
Beale - Can I stop you there?
I'm sure I've heard that one before.
