The BBC had Juke Box Jury. This had a panel of four who would vote new records as either a Hit or a Miss. It was chaired by David Jacobs and ran for eight years from 1959. It has been revived twice - once with Noel Edmonds as presenter and later Jools Holland.
Janice Nicholls appeared in the Spin-A-Disc section of an ITV offering called Thank Your Lucky Stars. In this, members of the public, usually teenagers, would vote on new records. They would rate them out of five, giving rise to what became Janice's catchphrase, said in a Black Country accent 'Oi'll give it foive'. TYLS ran from 1961 to 1966.
