It was writen by a guy called Charles Jeffrey (ies)/ to music by S Nelson. Don't know if it was written about any particular series of events but if you google it you'll get the lyrics and maybe the history of the song

Picked up on this because Allendale is just up the road from where I live, in Northumberland! You may struggle if you Google it spelt as "Allandale"
