Is the British music scene in good shape?

A new year has begun and of course this means a new group of British bands are hyped up to be the next big thing. Is the music industry in a good state? Are there many top quality bands out there, or is the British scene in danger of stagnating?

i would listen to british artists rather than american ones anyday
I love the mix of genres we have. I especially love how pop is back in
There are many good bands out there. Many people disagree with me about this though
Mainly because they hate my taste in music =]
Personallly my favourite artists are Take That, Lily Allen, The Hoosiers and Amy Winehouse. All British =]
