Always thought Morrissey was a bit of a tos ser and never really liked his music (apart from Every day is like Sunday, for soem odd reason), then saw him on Jonathon Ross and I still think he's a tos ser. And a pretentious one at that - 'I never perform Johnathon!' etc etc.
Conversely, went to see PSBs in concert two years ago and didn't expect much....Neil was never a great singer etc. But I was blown away by them, as was the whoel group of us who went. One of the best live gigs I've been to.
Guess it depends what floats your boat.
You're probably right slimjim. It's just I think that songwriters in a loosely similar vein from the past twenty years or so (like Neil Tenant, Andy Partridge, Luke Haines etc.) are much better but get overlooked. The only thing I can see that's really missing from those three is the self-pity factor, which is usually sure to bring on those legions!
Pet shop boys were good back in the day(80's) but the music got a bit too camp for me in the 90's !
Morrissey is over-rated and a really boring sod and was at his absolute best with the smiths but i would reach for a morrissey/smiths cd every time before even considering psb-neil tennants dull dance
