if u own the original - dl it
Record it to tape and then record an mp3 from that. There will be a slight loss in sound quality but only slight, and you'll have to record it in real time, but on the plus side once you've got one copy you'll be able to rip it in the normal way and do whatever else you wacky young copyright infringers do with your music these days.
It may have copy control on it - most do now to stop robbing gets copying and distributing they're music and making them actually buy a copy (god forbid that happened).
AnyDVD by slyfox software has the ability to allow you to copy some proteced audio cds as well as play DVDs from any region. There is a trial version so it wont cost you anything. What CDR software are you using? try something like Alcohol 120% as that has been designed too backup protected cds.
If that dont work try this. There is one fundamental problem with protected audio cds. You have to be able to play them, as soon as you can play them you can copy them. From your external cd player connect the output to the line-in on your computer run some audio editing software soundforge, goldwave etc and rip it to a wav or mp3.
rip it using iTunes or something, then burn the mp3s. iTunes lets me rip some protected cds like the Darkness and Kings of Leon, nothing else I tried would... No promises but that might work :)
