Im fairly sure it was called 'seaons in the sun' and it was sung by Terry Jacks in 1974.
Just to confirm Teak's response - this is one of the most famous 'death' songs which were fasionable in the 1960's - 'Honey' by Bobby Goldsboro is probably top of this particular macabre tree.
Terry Jack's version was the sentimental sanitised version. I think Rod Mckuen sang the original or a version of the original and the words are far more bitter. 'Goodbye Francoise my faithful wife - without you I'd have had a lonely life - you cheated lots of times but then - I forgave you in the end - though your lover was my friend' !!!! And Honey - classic lyrics! 'Came running in all excited, slipped and almost hurt herself and I laughed til I cried' have just realised what a sad childhood I had that I know these lyrics!
Nirvana did a cover of this song
