Pauline, the words for the song on the codehot website are not quite correct. They show the songs second line as "And parts of Ironcoats where I used to play". It's not "Ironcoats", it's Ancoats. I know. I'm from Ancoats. Also, the words say "He painted kids on the corner of the street with the sparking clogs". That's not quite right either. It should be "He painted kids on the corner of the street that were sparking clogs". This was a common practice amongst youngsters from deprived areas whose parents could only afford clogs, which were long lasting and hard wearing and sloed with metal plates. Hence, the kids used to kick them on the pavement to make them spark. Hows that for a social history lesson?!!
