I want to find a database that I can search to find out the chart positions of bands and the singles they have released - is there one?

There's a book called "The Guinness Book of Hit Singles". I lists everything you're looking for, though not sure if there's an on-line version.

The Collins Book of Hit Singles was supposed to come with a free CD-ROM database of all top 75 hit singles and albums, I haven't seen a copy yet but it might be worth checking out.
