I have heard whispers on here that the Fascists who run this site want to ban people based on their IP addresses.

There are a few flaws in this idea.

If you use a shared computer then someone who has got banned will cause everyone else who uses that PC to be banned as well.

It raises the prospect of someone posting stuff to deliberately get you banned.

At the moment, you can re-register with a different username and e-mail address.

What do you think?

I agree. You can't ban an IP.

I also think people will bore of this site very easily if the trolls didn't appear now and then. As long as they are not being too vulgar it can be interesting reading at times.

I think calling the Ed and colleagues Fascists is uncalled for, and not the best way to gain their co-operation.

Remember, they have the power on the site - be nice, not because of that, but because they are doing a job, and being rude is not nice.
I wonder why you want to post here at all if you believe it is run by Fascists?

That is a hugely inflammatory and insulting term.
Why don't you just email the editor and find out?

Why would anyone whisper this?

Its almost as exciting as whispering the ingredients of a Victoria sponge!

how many people are likely to use your IP address deliberately to get you banned on AB? You must have some unusually cunning flatmates.

Anyway, send the Ed an email, point out to him that he's a fascist, and show him what he's doing wrong; he'll be very understanding.
my ip address is global.ner ner ner ner,so you`d have too catch me first. :):) ohh i hope i dont get banned for this,i only just registered, lalalalalalalax

It's true that most people never will be banned but think about this.

Someone goes on your shared computer, be it at home or in a public place and deliberately gets themselves banned. This means that everyone with accounts on that PC is also banned.

Do you think that is fair. I don't.

I'm always controversial in real life so I can be nothing but the same on here. If that occasionally gets me banned then that is my bad luck but I don't see why other people should suffer.

Fascist because they don't even have the courtesy to tell you that you have been banned or why.
You want us all to suffer your controversial views?

To be banned you must be more than controversial - you must be offensive in some way.

Question Author
The reason why I would get banned is irrelevant. The point is that it should be just me and not anyone else.

As for what's offensive, we all have different views on that.
Fascist because they don't even have the courtesy to tell you that you have been banned or why.

That is not the definition of fascism
Their site, their rules

If you don't like it there are millions of other sites for you to choose from.

Well it's good enough for me.
why can you not just abide by the Site Rules? if you cannot there are plenty of other forums that have a relaxed attitude to rules that may be more to your suiting.

True, but the people on those sites may not be as easy to wind up as some of the muppets on here.
so in essence you just want to continue winding people up without repremand. expect to be banned, maybe you need to train the regulars on the relaxed sites to bite more to give you more of a buzz?

I don't think people should wind other people up.
Funny how you whinge about being targeted by "mean people" who want you banned, yet admit to use this site purposefully to wind up "muppets". I think the ED should ban your IP address, for sure.
Now go play with a laser pointer.
some of us have ip's that change each time we log on,so how can you ban those?
