Remembering Buddy Holly & co......

50 years ago today that he, Ritchie Valens & Big Bopper died! Not forgetting he pilot.

His songs were pleasant ditties about about teenage angste. He could not be compared to Elvis, Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry and loads of others in the Rock and Roll list of legends. He attained legendary status because he died in tragic curcumstances. I wonder where he would be if he was still around.

No johnny, Buddy Holly he could never be compared to Elvis - Elvis was my hero BTW.

But as it's the 50th anniversary today, I just thought I'd mention it, if that's okay? ;o/

I love his music. He died just before I was conceived, so I therefore believe that I am the reincarnation of Buddy Holly.

Now, if I can juuuusssst get this Fm chord ... twannngggg ... pinnnggg ...

We married in the mid 60's, when the Stones & the Beatles were in the charts.

However, my husband had every LP & single that Buddy Holly had made, up until he was tragically killed.

My husband's brother was a big influence, as he was 10 years older than him & used to play their music. Then when we met, I used to listen to them too, even though I'd never heard of him! In fact our eldest daughter was named after the record label!

Come the 70's we were well into heavy rock & so the story goes on.....

We were also into soul music & tamla motown, etc.

Hi smudge, well he certainly inspired many, including John Lennon, paul McCartney owns the rights to all of his songs I think. I love his music, and if anyone gets the chance to see "Buddy" the musical please go, it is a superb night out and the bloke that plays Buddy Holly is amazing. take care smudgie xx

Hi Ray -how nice to 'see' you again.

Glad you enjoy his music too. We went to see Buddy in London some time back & it was fantastic! We both knew all the words to their songs, so it was a great night had by us & a couple of friends.

I'd like to see it again though, so will look into it & to who's playing him this time.

Jerry Lee Lewis is still going strong and from Oct to Dec 08 he did a barnstorming tour of Uk and Europe. So don't pine for Buddy. The Killer rocks on carrying that 1950s rock 'n' roll torch.

I was only a little girl in the 50's, but remember listening to the music way back then!

Two of my brothers are 10 & 6 years older than me & I remember dancing in the living room with them, to their LP's on a little record player!

Those were the days! ;o}
