the song is by irish singer sean wilson about a father with his daughter on his knee telling her about her mother whom I think must have died when the child was young or during birth not realy sure, last heard this song about 1990 need to know the title . thanx in advance

The nearest I can come up with is a song called "Skibbereen" which I know The Dubliners amongst others recorded a number of years ago.

But the difference is that it's a young lad singing to his father about why they had to leave Ireland, and it does mention in the song that the mother had died.
