How did Kokomo bassist Alan Spenner die?

Kokomo bassist Alan Spenner (who also played with Roxy Music and other acts) died on 11th August 1991 aged 43. I have never been able to find out how he died. Can anyone tell me what killed him?

Spent ages searching the web to find the answer but very little info about how he died.

Eventually found this to say he had died of cancer, but nothing concrete to back it up
