According to the Internet Movie dataBase,ALL the music for Lewis is by Barrington Pheloung, see here:~
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006224/
and from the (very short) opening sequences that I can find I don't (as an opera buff) recognise the music;so I would assume that it is by Barrington Pheloung too.
If you search on Amazon.co.uk(under CD's) you may find one with music from Inspector Lewis on it?
Correction:~
Having at last tracked down the CD of Lewis, there ARE two (possible) operatic pieces, one is called Songs My Mother Taught Me,and the other is Voi Che Sapete(frm the Marriage of Figaro by Mozart).
However,if you search on Amazon (under) Lewis you will find it.
Just in case the UK Amazon "sampler" player isn't working, here is a link to the German Amazon.
http://www.amazon.de/Lewis/dp/B001QH0GTQ/ref=d m_cd_album_bb
This is of course a bit academic,as you will probably want to buy the CD anyway?

That's really great, thank you! It sounds like it's from Songs My Mother Taught Me. Athough the CD you've linked to is for series 1 and 2, this was the third series I believe. But I'm assuming the opening titles music was the same throughout each series.
