Does anybody know the name of the song from the mid 70's with the lyrics "where's your mother gone little baby girl, far, far away. Last night I heard my mother singing a song..." ??

By Middle of the road.

 

I think it is based on an old Scotish folk song.

yes its chirpy chirpy cheep cheep, hit for middle of the road in 1971, also covered by everyone from Mac and katie kissoon (soul) to klaus wunderlich and james last (easy listening / lounge music)!

got to any charity shop in the land it 'll probably be on one album or other!
