In the 1980s began the Acid House scene, giving rise to Trance, Hardcore, etc. This became mainstream, leading to the Club Scene. To compliment this, many clubs installed a chillout Room, where Chillout music could be listened to. Meanwhile, Goth grew out of Punk and Grunge out of Heavy Metal. Rap and Hip Hop were introduced from the States and Indie bands tried to make an alternative stance to the mainstream and to Dance music. So, to summarize, the late 20th century and early 21st saw the rise of various types of Dance and Chillout.
