According to Guinness Hit Singles book, St Winifreds School Choir only reco rded one record. That was "There's no one quite like grandma".

Well, I guess I win this week's award for Answerbanker Most In Need Of Getting Out More.

The Sparrow, as the song was called, was a 1979 hit - yes, it really was that long ago - for The Ramblers, a group of kids from the Abbey Hey Junior School, apparently.

As for St Winifred's School Choir, they did also provide backing vocals for Brian and Michael'* *** Matchstalk Men And Matchstalk Cats And Dogs, thereby having the honour of being one hit wonders, erm, twice.

brillant,thanks little oldme!!!!!! now do you know where i could get a copy?!!!? and how did you know such a useless piece of info!!!! least there are people out there like me who also need to get out more!!!!!!

now for my final question to everyone! do any of you regonise these lyrics from and early nineties song,possibly by black female artist,did have a bit of rapping in middle or end by a male......i'm thinking of you and the things you do to me,that make me love you now i'm living in ectasy.....????????

Er, St Winifred's School Choir most certainly did record more than one record. You seem to have made the mistake of assuming that every record ever made got into the top 75.

Isn't there someone (on television perhaps - possibly a soap-actor or presenter) that was in St Winifreds School Choir?

I vaguely remember learning of this in some 'profile of...' type-programme, but I can't remember who it was.

Perhaps brachipod is getting his/her annoying singing children mixed up and is thinking of Natalie Casey, of Hollyoaks/ Two Pints Of Lager And An Absurdly Long Title fame, who had a minor hit with "Chick Chick Chicken" when she was three years old. She'd entered the Saturday Superstore Search For A Superstar and though she was too young to enter the main competition, they let her on the show anyway.

Gawd, was that her?!

I remember that - 'twas oft repeated in it's full cutesy nausea-inducing glory. Thanks for reminding me, jenstar !!

However, no, it's not her I'm thinking of, I'm pretty certain it was St Winifreds that this person was in.

Got it!

Sally Lindsay who plays Shelley in Coronation Street.

"...Sally's first taste of showbusiness was at the age of seven when she was the youngest member of St Winifred's School Choir, who had a No1 Christmas hit with Grandma We Love You." (sample quote from web)

And here's a BBC link from 2002 with some frightening news indeed;

emmajane - it's Thinking Of You by Maureen (Walsh) which came out in 1990. It was originally done by Sister Sledge and has recently been murdered by Paul Weller.
