Freddie covered the song. Around 1995 this was a big fave at my regular pub venue when we had a 50s, 60s, 70s night.
It was so popular that it became the nights closing theme for a few months.
It was a song that I had forgotten about after hearing Freddie and the Dreamers sing it in the 60s. Early in 95 I went to one of those package 60s shows with Freddie, Wayne Fontana and a couple of other great 60s names.
As for Freddie, I heard an interview with him on the radio a few months ago and he doesn't sound very well, between speaking himself you could hear him in the background taking air.
Freddie lives in Stoke these days, and is apparently unwell. I was dining with a friend in a local Italian restaurant which has pictures of visiting celebrities on its walls, including Freddie. My friend and I discussed him, and the couple on the next table joined in to confirm that he bought a house off them a few years ago, and was unwell. I've fpund out that he suffers from systemic sclerosis and an attendent pulmonary condition which confines him to a wheelchair most of the time - both are the side effects of a recent heart attack. Having received a 'disabled' car sticker, Freddie promptly found some double-yellow lines to park on, just because he could!
