Shame. Joggerjayne - I believe he died from Cancer.

Indeed, Ronnie has been suffering from stomach cancer, but was obviously recovering, because Heaven and Hell were due to headline the Bloodstock Festival in August.

I interviewed Ronnie at the start of his solo career, and even in a business which does have its fair share of genuinely nice people, he was a true gentleman, and to this day, remains the only musician I have interviewed at soundcheck (whcih is usually folllowed by the band having dinner) who invited me to eat with him, his band and crew. I accepted, and he and they were charming company.

As I came to leave, Ronnie commented on a badge I was wearing which said 'Back By Public Demand'. I offered it to him as a gift because, as i pointed out, it was far more appropriate that he wear it than I. he smiled and accepted graciously.

A thoroughly nice man, and a wonderful singer,what a sad loss.

I am sad today.

I'd forgotten about Rainbow.

I just remember him from Black Sabbath ... in the picture in the middle of the Paranoid album sleeve.

Saw him a few times back in the 70's with Rainbow, he was an excellent vocalist, born for Heavy metal!

If you want to hear Ronnie check out the Rainbow albums "Rising" and "Long Live Rock n Roll", Black Sabbath "Heaven and Hell" and his first solo album "Holy Diver". The song "Love is All" from the "Butterfly Ball" was also sung by Ronnie. He made many more albums but these are my favourites. My avatar is the Rising album cover.

When he made Rising he was the best rock singer in the world, fantastic singer.
