How can I delete DVD + RW Disc please

I have a disc which is a DVD + RW I wish to delete the files ,when I try it tells me that they are read only files and therefore cannot be deleted ,any ideas please .
In simple terms would be great.
I realise I am in the wrong section but I have started now .

The disc was probably 'closed' during the write process. in which case you will need to destroy it - either put it through a shredder that has a slot for discs/cards or wrap it in a plastic bag and snap it up by hand.
Any dvd burner software should have an "erase disc" function. If the data is sensitive make sure you use the "full erase" option. It's slower but more secure than the "quick erase" option. I use freeware burner cdburnerxp. Quick and easy to use.
AP, can't 'read only' be changed, then rename the files or copy over them, then format the disc? Sorry if I'm talking rubbish (that's my specialty anyway :-) ) but I was just thinking there must be some way. I know my brother used to reuse all those free internet software CDs that came in the mail. Don't know how he did it though.
