You can`t go wrong with Abba for starters.
Abba always gets them dancing, Tina Turner(Simply the Best), Beatles for the older ones, Bryan Adams(18 till I die)
If they are a good dj they should know what good party tunes are, The younger ones will dance to party tunes and I'm sure they will have requests for DJ on the night
Like 4get says...just tell him the age range. He should have an idea what to play..
i dont think you can please everyone, just play different sets say half hour 60s and 70s stuff
half hour 80s/90s stuff
then half hour modern stuff and repeat x.
Just get the oldies pissed then they think they can dance to anything............
Every time I've been to one of these family parties with a DJ it's always the oldies that get people up dancing, it's always something with a good beat eg. The Mavericks, Beatles, Abba, anyway it's your party so choose what you like but ask your kids for a few of their favourites as well. Have a good party. x
Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free
Roxy Music - Let's Stick Together
David Bowie - The Jean Genie
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla
Neil Diamond - Cracklin Rose
Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar
The Beatles - Get Back

The Twist, The Hucklebuck, Oops Upside your Head, The Slosh.

Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant.....................................
..

Nice of you to give this DJ a start in his career. :)
douglas I'm sorry most of them would make me sit down. I'd say for the older generation, abba, high ho silver lining, build me up buttercup, tiger feet, a bit of quo for the rockers. Middle aged, Wham, Whitney, chesney, just pure cheese, younger ones like macarena, saturday night, the cha cha slide ....
Don't forget to include 'Sugar-Sugar' by the Archies, always gets me up on the floor.
(I'm thinking of the higher end of the age group here)

You could always look at this site and choose what was around at the time you were into partying. That's what I did for my 25th Wedding Anniversary.

I do like Oops upsde your head douglas but that also makes me sit down lol
It`s got to be something you can dance to. I can find loads of soul/dance music on my ipod that would fit the bill. (can`t remember offhand though) The maximum age in the question is 60 so that`s not exactly ancient. The harder choice is to find something for the youngsters that`s "cool"
Craft 'Just get the oldies pissed then they think they can dance to anything' well she will be forty... dont be mean ;-)
But don't forget the tena lady anyway. :-)
If you tell any decent DJ the age of the attendees he/she should know what to play.

I used to DJ and apart from a couple of must have songs I used to discourage people giving me playlists as invariably they would be their personal taste like the wedding I got asked to do anfd got given a list of 75 r&b songs.
