Are we living out all our Yesterdays
They don't make them like they used to.
There have been 2,500 cover versions of The Beatles timeless classic Yesterday since it was written in 1965.
Rolling Stone magazine named it the the top pop song of the last 37 years.
Now the new compilation of 27 Beatles number ones has rocketed to the top of the album charts. In America meanwhile, a television documentary credits the group with helping bring down Soviet communism.
Dr Yury Pelyoshonok said: 'The Beatles had this tremendous impact on Soviet kids. They lost their interest in all Soviet unshakeable dogmas and ideals, and stopped thinking of an English-speaking person as the enemy.'
But why were the Beatles so influential Is it because, like the Rolling Stones who came second in the same survey with Satsifaction - also written in1965 - set the standards for the music business
Is it that the generation that grew up with them are still such an influential part of the record-buying public
Or is it that, with a few exceptions like Madonna, that modern bans just don't have the technical and creative skill to rank with the two bands who stood out in the Sixties and still stand out today
