Last FM
Last FM is an online social music site. It allows users to connect with other listeners with similar music tastes, to custom-build their own radio stations and to watch music video-clips. The station is a global music service available in 12 languages. It claims over 40 million active users based in more than 200 countries.
Last.fm was founded in 2002 by Felix Miller, Martin Stiksel, Michael Breidenbruecker and Thomas Willomitzer, as an internet radio station and music community site, using similar music profiles to generate dynamic playlists. The Audioscrobbler was first used by a university student to track what music he and his friends were listening to on their computers.
Last.fm brought the Audioscrobbler and the idea of getting independent music out to the people who wanted to hear it together in 2005.
The concept is that Last.fm will learn the type of music that individual listeners are most partial to. Every track you play will update your profile so it can connect you to other people who like what you like - and recommend songs from their music collections and yours too.
