/// the problem is that it's hard to get offended when you're living comfortably in one of the richest countries in the world. ///

I think there may be many in this country, who are not living 'comfortable' and are also living below the 'poverty level', who wont find it hard to offended by that remark ED.

Sorry, do explain? You did see what it was in response to, didn't you?

Re: "complaint": I was using your remark as comparative AOG, I certainly didn't mean to imply it wasn't valid by using the word "complaint".

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I have read the other post that you replied to, and yes I can now see a slight bit of sarcasm in your reply to it, it was just 'one of the richest countries in the world' referral that threw me.
i am not encouraging any violence what so ever. lets get that straight first, ok.

what i want to say is why? why do it?
"what i want to say is why? why do it?"

Publish the picture? To stand up for freedom of speech. To say "Just because YOU believe in a set of rules doesn't mean I have to adhere by those rules".

The French bolstered defences on their embassies last night in anticipation of a backlash.
i agree with freedom of speech. But is there really any reason to this apart from to offend muslims?

bu they know that out of all times, now is not the best time to do it. right after that film came out.
*but
I think the Life of Brian had a bit more depth to it.
Or, it's the best time to do it? They're not trying to steer clear of controversy, they're making a stand.
///IMPORTANT BIT: "Though some members of the Jewish, Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist faiths were reportedly offended by the image, sources confirmed that upon seeing it, they simply shook their heads, rolled their eyes, and continued on with their day." ///
More important still is what they were really thinking inside . If a campaign (against all religions) is taking place , just because people are staying quiet doesn't mean that they haven't noticed this campaign is taking place .
//Or, it's the best time to do it? They're not trying to steer clear of controversy, they're making a stand.//

so than they should be aware that many muslims will make a stand as well. Again, im not supporting violence, to get that clear.
@Argorstran and Ligtbulb

Neither of you seem to get it at all.Your religion, the religion of peace, flares up at the slightest hint of criticism or mockery of mohammed. Mob rule, violent over-reaction, murder, flag burning, intimidation. The mob and the mullahs behind them attempt to stifle criticism, stifle mockery by intimidation, by threat and by terror.

No ideology or religion should be immune from mockery or criticism, and most especially those ideas and religions that shape the global culture. For the West, individual liberty, the democratic process, the rule of law, and the right of free speech are all threatened by such reaction - and that threat and fear just cranks up the tension.

Look at the consequences of this latest flare up to a cheaply made, deliberately inflammatory piece of propaganda - murder of an ambassador, a renewal of the fatwa on Rushdie with an increased bounty - Is this the mature response of a religion of peace? Is this the face of Islam that you want the rest of the world to see?

A cornerstone of secular democracy is freedom of speech - all you are attempting to do is to stifle that.

The religion and some of these more frothing at the mouth adherents need to grow up....
//Is this the face of Islam that you want the rest of the world to see?//

no. But than the rest of the world should realise that the majority of muslims do not support these killings.
