...and the judge obliged by granting a temporary injunction. Should abusers, even if the abuse was years ago, be allowed to hide their past crimes?

No. they had still committed a crime. very much doubt if their victims have forgotten. it is still a crime and they are still accountable.

I don't think they deserve any legal protection, the press have slated the likes of Savile and co even though some of them are dead. What makes this one so special.
