I think everyone has to agree, wherever they are from and whatever their political views, that this so-called "War on Terror" is nothing but an excuse for America to invade wherever they see fit; after all, it is a perfect way around international diplomacy conflicts, as they can invade a country without actually decalaring war on it, and if a country's government refuses to allow a US (and subsequently UK) invasion, then they must be colluding with the terrorists, and then a decleration of war is legitimate.
Certain people seem very quick to forget also that it was Afghanistan that was invaded off the back of 9/11, not Iraq, and of course Saddam needed stopping but what was wrong with sending in a couple of agents to assassinate him, like Margaret Thatcher originally wanted to do. Say what you like about her but if she'd been given the go-ahead then this problem would have been solved 20 years ago.
Finally why is it that certain superpowers, (not the US alone, although they are by far the worst) are so quick to try to prevent others from having what they've got? The argument that North Korea, China, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan etc etc cannot have nuclear weapons as they won't use them responsibly (i.e. as a deterrant) is rediculous when America is the most irresponsible nation in the world. We must remember that they were the ones who dropped two on Japan, they instigated the Cold War with their paranoia about Communism, and now they are the ones trying to scatter them across the world.

They want to stamp all over the world and indoctrinate everyone into their way of thinking and be the superpower .GB tried to finish what his daddy couldn't and has failed miserably and I still reckon his father has a lot to say in what his policies are . He doesn't run America ....the oil barons run it . It's their new Vietnam and we have been drawn into it by lickspittle Blair. GB should concentrate more on homeland policy and stop warmongering .There is an awful lot of poverty in America in spite of their rich image ...or has everyone forgotten Hurricane Catrina and it's aftermath .Plenty of dollars to wage war but nothing for the poor devils who lost everything . .This is why their refusal to sign up to Kyoto annoys me .They can drop bombs wily nilly on other countries but can't protect their own .

The USA would get more worldwide respect if they consulted with these nations and respected their religions and way of life many of whom do not want American freedom pushed down their throats.

THe US entered the war militarily after the PEarl HArbour attack, but they had been keeping Britain resupplied with VITAL food and other commodities for a long time before that. (Do you remember hearing anything about so many merchant vessels being attacked by U-Boats in the Atlantic?, well, the merchant vessels were carrying things, the GErmans were not targetting them for fun.)
The missile defence shield is not a threat to Russian missiles. Putin , and everyone, knows it. It is designed to shoot down a few missiles at best, and Russia is capable of launching hundreds at the same time. Also (as Putin himself was boasting) Russia has technology for missiles that change course after the launch stage, and could not be shot down using the shield's system very easily. This problem is more about Russian fears over their continuing loss of control over the Former SOviet Union - most of which is keen to protect themselves against their former masters. THere are issues involving Moldova, Serbia and Kosovo, Poland, the Ukraine and Estonia. The missile defence system is a problem for Russia as it leaves a US military presence in Poland - right on Russia's doorstep (Belarus's doorstep.). Poland has a strongly anti-Russian government at the moment - both president and prime minister. The US is by no means forcing them to place BM defence systems there. They are welcoming it - for the security it would provide them - as an additional security measure against their main perceived threat - RUSSIA.

Meanwhile Russia is increasingly using its monopoly control of continental europe's energy supplies to interfer in internal politics in countries such as Ukraine, Estonia etc. (Russia sees this not as interference, but as their sphere of influence - the FSU) And the GAS / OIL from these countries ends up in central and western europe. Europe is very concerned about this, Merkel is the best hope at this stage for european resistance.

THe other facilities planned for alaska are obviously targetted at N- Korean launches. A Russian nuclear strike on the US would involve launches from Russia OVER the Arctic (the shortest route to the US), not across Eastern Europe. If the US really wanted to target Russian capabilities, it would do so in northern Canada, Northern Europe and Alaska.
