Well done Asda for finally fining people for parkining in Parent and Child spaces

I saw this on the news last night,they showed a man with no children in the car in an almost empty car park who had parked his car in a parent and child bay,the interviewer asked him if he knew Asda had started fining people for this,he moved his car one space forward. It was laughable that he chose the parent child space in the first place.lol

Obviously there are and should be disabled spaces but why should there be parent and child spaces?

Why not old people spaces?

It's a good point - there are a lot of old people (like my father) who can't walk well but are frankly too damn proud to get a badge - what can you do?

But the number of able-bodied parking in disabled at my Local supermarket is a disgrace.

There was a roofer the the other day, ladders on the van and all.

I wonder how he gets the wheelchair up the ladder

I think anyone parking in a disabled spot should be prosecuted.

i am totally against mother and child spaces though. You choose to have kids, i choose not to, why get a special space?

I am all for special spaces for parents with young children.

Less chance of my car being dinged by mothers opening their cars doors to the full extent when they are getting the babies out of the back of the car.

And less chance of me putting my foot in the dirty nappy the mother has left behind, as I get out of my car.

Asda will lose a lot of business though - people won't spend their money with them if they've had a �50 fine.

reverandfunk yes i agree we choose to have kids, but we dont choose to hit other peoples cars trying to get the kids out of the cars, we need the extra room to get everything out the car, you cant get kids out of the car when you have a car right next to yours, so i dont think its just for conveience for us mothers or even fathers but also to prevent door dings. its just the extra room thats needed.

What about a mother with 2 kids say 7 and 8? Not in buggies why do they need a space?

Disabled bays are a right and there for obvious reasons

Mother and Child spaces are not - they are a customer service and it riles me some what that there are mothers out there who whinge about not being able to park in one! Get rid of them for good. The best place to park in any supermarket to avoid car dings from both people with kids and other inconsiderate drivers is as far away form the door as possible which is where I head every time - child in tow!

Tesco spaces are fo those with children up to the age of 5, after that you have to park in the main car park - shock horror lol

Parent and child spaces are a safety feature.

You know the yellow spaces on the side? my daughter can stand on that space without fear of a car coming screaming around the corner and hitting her ~ which has almost happened before when the spaces are taken up by people with no kids. It was also great when I had a pram to get out of the car.

In my local supermarket there are more disabled spaces than parent/child bays. I would put money on there being more parents with children than there are disabled people ~ but I don't moan about it ;o)

However I do use the normal spaces when I am on my own ~ many don't.

See this is where I think the money on parking atendants would be better spent - ensuring the speed limit in the car park is adhered to.

Because once those bays are full many mums have to walk with their children across the car park

Totally agree with you, ojread2.

To be honest the only supermarket I use these spaces in is the one which is very little used. If I go to Tesco or Sainsburys I usually park right at the back and walk to the store ~ which isn't a problem unless I am dealing with the speeding cars!

I agree with Tescos policy cos a parent with an 8 and and a 10 year old doest need the space. Why you are hoiking a toddler into a car seat or a babyseat in and out of the car its nigh on an impossibility in some car parking spaces. Im all for geting rid of them if the people who think they arent needed are happy about getting their car pranged.

As for legality of their fines, its their land and their car park, surely they can do what they like?
