Unfortunatly the gun is becoming (in certain sections of the community) a must have fashion object and were there's a demand somebody will provide a supply. As to where they get them I saw a documentary showing how easy it is to buy replica guns (all perfectly legal) and then convert them to to the real thing, they are only good for a limited number of shots but how many do you need to kill somebody?.As to what the police can do they've being trying for years and unfortunatly getting nowhere.
As I said In my first post replica guns are converted, and no doubt some people with access to guns in the army do sell them but the sad fact remains that in some parts of the world guns, like drugs, can bought with no control at all and as long as the profit is there some people will be prepared to to take the risk to smuggle them regardless of the harm they cause. As to why it's getting worse I Just don't know you'll just have to take you're pick from any of the "T.V./ Video game violence / breakdown of family standards / lack of discipline in school and homes / P.C. preventing the police etc doing there job" theories
Its happening a lot in Birmingham as well. Don't really know what the answer is. Society is now degenerating so much that there is no longer respect for anyone or thing. Children see it as a funny thing to stone and drown other chidren to death whilst filming it on their phones, they love to drop animals from high rise blocks etc. why not shoot each other?
I think you will find that the military have very strict procedures regarding fire arms. One cannot fail to hand in those that have been issued to them.
Most of these weapons are coming in from Eastern Europe. If we cannot stop the flow of illegal immigrants, what chance do we have stopping the flow of guns?
Regarding how are the police to stop gun crime. It is the same with all crime, they are not going to stop it completely, that is obvious.
What can happen is for the police to operate a zero tolerance, no matter if it will alienate any particular section of the community. By this I mean stop and search, anyone they suspect could be carrying any form of weapon.
Then when a person has been arrested for these offences, then it is for the courts to hand out more severe sentences, whether it be a child or an adult. With no early release for good behavour, only extended sentences for bad behavour.

Lets look at some history : The gun law's on owning and shooting pistols were changed in the UK.No one was allowed to own a pistol.Shotguns and rifles were still allowed.
In banning the use of pistols, this made the pistol into a commodity, and as with any commodity, it became an object to be traded and sold.
As with all illegal items including drugs, the criminals will always find a way of getting them onto our street's.
So whats the solution ?.
Build more prisons - Lock offenders up for long sentances, So you want to carry a gun ? - then face 10yrs in Prison.
The same for knives.

It's happening everywhere, not just in Manchester. I grew up near Nottingham, where mass shootings are common. Unfortunately, guns are becoming a must-have fashion accessory (in some communities), and if there is demand, there will be supply. In terms of how they get them, I've been wondering how easy it is to buy legal counterfeit firearms, convert them into real firearms, and use real firearms to kill people. The Bulls have been trying for years to do what they can, with disappointing results.
