If No Vote Happens Should Alex Salmond Resign

This campaign has caused great division in Scotland and if No wins on Friday morning as I am hoping it will should Alex Salmond resign> Surely his position is untenable.

If he discovers that the majority of the voting population disagrees with the fundamental basis principles, then he must resign.

Of course not. If that happens he's still the elected leader. Nearly 50% of the country support independence. I don't see how that makes his position untenable.

Not sure why, except he would have achieved his ambition, and got the power for those north of the border anyway, due to government cave in. Well, unless it proves all promise and no substance.

No, he remains the elected leader of one of the political parties in Scotland, that won't change.

If the answer is "No", although there is no imperative for Salmond to resign, I rather think that wheels will begin to turn to de-select him sooner rather than later.

His hubris will never let him resign. It would never occur to him for one second.

It will only be untenable if, after trumpeting his determination to go independent even on the most marginal 'yes' vote, he shows less determination to respect a majority 'no' vote.

No, I expect the 'No' vote to prevail but it may be closer than some expect. I'm going for a 54% against. However, Salmond and co will still see a moral victory in the event of a close run affair and I just wonder where this will leave the minority who will be desperately disappointed. Could be some strong protests and the fight is sure to rumble on...
